advertising in The Music Times

The Music Times offers a variety of ad opportunities, and gives you an affordable means of advertising your business or arts event in ads that run for two months at a time. The current circulation is 5,000 copies of the paper, available in the Waterloo-Wellington area in bookstores, concert venues, galleries, cafes, schools, and more. Here is a description of the main types of ads, followed by a list of rates and sizes.
Types
of ads
1. ads which are large and can go on almost any inner page.
These larger ads have a lot of "pop" to them and are very effective: they can be used for:
- advertising a particular concert
- a number of concerts
- a festival
- a particular project (e.g., new recordings, an exhibit)
- an entire season generally
2. smaller (business card shape) ads in the Spotlight section –
a great way to
maintain visibility at low cost.
This section is modelled on the MarketPlace section of WholeNote , and has a
very similar look.
3. ads that are placed on the central concert calendar pages. These ads are somewhat more expensive (for their size) than the other ads, and the reason is simply that every time people check the calendar for concerts, they will see the calendar ads

Larger ads:
1/16 page ad: $50
1/8 page ad: $ 100
1/4 page ad: $ 200
1/2 page ad: $ 350
3/4 page ad: $ 425
full page ad: $ 500 (10" x 16")
Spotlight ads:
1 or 2 issues: $40 per issue
3 or 4 issues: $35 per issue
5 or 6 issues : $30 per issue ($180 for the entire year!)
Calendar page ads:
single column size: 1.5"w
x 2.5"h
1 issue: $80
3 issues: $75 per issue
6 issues: $70 per issue
double column size: 3"w x 2.5"h
1 issue: $125
3 issues: $120 per issue
6 issues: $105 per issue
Ad copy should be submitted by early in the month before the next issue (or a commitment to a certain size ad; in that case, the actual copy can come in at mid-month without a problem). For example, deadline for September-October issue is early August.
Ads can be text only, sent via e-mail, or if you have a complete ad with design,
a PDF or jpeg format works well. If you'd like us to create a graphic design
for you, that's a possibility.
